Annual Meeting and Report:
The Violence Prevention Roundtable of Berks held its annual meeting on July 16th, 2009 at the former Liberty Firemen's Relief Association. The keynote speaker was Dr. Brenda L. Russell, associate professor of psychology at Penn State Berks and co-author of the Route 222 Corridor Anti-Gang Initiative. The Roundtable also recognized Reading attorney Joseph A. Guilliama, Reading police Sargeant Mark Stump, Angel Figueroa and Isamac Torres-Figueroa for their work in Violence Prevention. Following the annual meeting, Reading Eagle staff writer John Fidler wrote an editorial calling for a gang prevention program. VPCBerks is currently researching how to initiate such a program.
